Dear Friends & Customers of Windmill Gardens,

After 45 years of growing, serving, and sharing life with you here in the Sumner area, it is with a full and heavy heart that I write to share some difficult news: Windmill Gardens will be closing its doors.

My parents, John and Ansje DeGoede, started this journey decades ago with tulips, seasonal flowers, and a simple desire to grow good things for our neighbors. I grew up in these greenhouses and on these grounds—assembling boxes for candy money as a boy, learning the seasons, and eventually taking the helm alongside my own son Benjamin. What began as a small family farm became a place many of you have called a second home: a spot for hanging baskets in spring, poinsettias at Christmas, classes, conversations, and the quiet joy of watching something take root.

We have been deeply grateful for every customer who walked through our doors, every gardener who trusted us with their questions, and every neighbor who made Windmill Gardens part of their story. Your support, loyalty, and friendship have sustained our family and our team through the years. Sumner has been more than a location—it has been home.

The decision to close has not come easily. After careful reflection on the realities of the business, the changing landscape of our industry, and what is best for our family going forward, we have concluded that the time has come to step back. We will be closing doors in late October.  It will be our last day of normal operations. We will remain open weekdays for liquidation and final details thru parts of November.

In the meantime, please know how much your presence has meant to us.
